Load, passengers and trailers
The load must be secure and must not block your view or the lights. With a trailer there are special rules about weight and speed.
Loading correctly
- The load may not block your view or cover lights and indicators.
- The load must be secured and covered if necessary, so that it does not fall off or create dust.
- Ropes and tarpaulins may not hang loose or drag on the ground.
- The maximum permitted weight may not be exceeded, and you may not carry more passengers than the car is registered for.

- A light trailer, that is, no more than 750 kg maximum permitted weight, or a heavier trailer if the car and trailer together have a maximum permitted weight of no more than 3.5 tonnes.
- With the extended B category (special driving test) the combined maximum permitted weight may be no more than 4.25 tonnes.
- The maximum trailer weight that applies to the car may never be exceeded.

Speed with a trailer
With a braked trailer, or a light unbraked trailer, you may drive at no more than 80 km/h. With a heavier unbraked trailer the limit is 40 km/h, and then the trailer's gross weight may not be higher than the car's.
