Motorways and expressways
Motorways and expressways are built for fast traffic. That is why there are special rules about who may drive there and what you may not do.

Rules on motorways
- Only motor vehicles that are built for and allowed to be driven at at least 40 km/h may drive there. Class I mopeds may not be driven on motorways.
- You may only join at the start of the road or on a slip road, and leave the road only at an exit or at the end of the road.
- You may not drive on the central reservation or on links between the carriageways.
- You may not turn round or reverse.
- You may not stop or park except in signed car parks or rest areas.
- The maximum speed is 110 km/h, unless Trafikverket has decided on 120 km/h.

Expressways
The same rules as on motorways apply on expressways, except the 110 km/h rule. Unless otherwise signed, the base speed of 70 km/h applies there.

Joining and leaving
In the acceleration lane, adapt your speed to the traffic in the lane you are joining and move out as soon as it can be done without danger. If there is no acceleration lane, you must give way to the traffic on the motorway.
If you are leaving the road, choose the right lane in good time and move into the deceleration lane as soon as possible.
