Following distance
The law does not give an exact distance in metres or seconds. It requires you to keep a distance large enough that you do not risk hitting the vehicle in front if it slows down or stops.
Distance to the vehicle in front
You must adapt the distance so that you do not risk hitting the vehicle in front if it slows down or stops. The distance should also make it easier for others to overtake.

Sideways distance
When you meet or overtake other vehicles, you must leave a safe sideways distance. Pedestrians you meet or overtake must be given enough space and time to move aside.

Help those behind you
You may not brake suddenly without a valid reason. If someone wants to overtake you, keep to the right and do not speed up.
